Small Successes

FaithButton
"It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that."

1) I managed to survive a week of stomach flu that ran rampant through the family.  We are still recuperating and dealing with some of the after effects, but all in all we made it out alive!

2) The baby did not suffer through the stomach flu this week...very excited about that =)

3) I finished 2 blocks of my knitting project that I'm working on (you can find the project at the Bernat website.  It's on the knit-along blog)

Okay!  I think that is all for this week.  What are your small successes???  You can see how other moms are doing at the Faith and Family site here.

Yay for surviving a week in a stomach-flu-ridden house! That's no small feat :). And knitting all the while??

So you raise your own beef? Any tips? This is our first year with cattle. We've got a small hay/grass-fed herd of about 20 heifers and a bull. I'm not sure if we're going to keep any or sell off the cow/calf pairs, but it's an interesting world to get into!

Hi Cathy!! Your blog looks great! I found you because I follow Testosterhome and I saw that she twittered you (that is so cool...she is like, famous!!!) I look forward to following you! *evil laugh*

Farmer's City Wife, I just finished reading your post about 'Changing water'! Wow...I was dying laughing =) That was great. Country life is not natural for me either...I was raised in a subdivision with lots of neighbors, so the whole raising our own food is so new to me. We have actually slaughtered one bull (he got too old) and a pig so far...the meat is fantastic! No real tips yet...we only have 2 cows, a heifer calf, and a steer. One of the cows is fixing to have her calf any day now, so we are excited! We raise Dexters. They are a smaller breed of cattle, so a little easier on the pasture. My husband would be jealous of your 20 head of cattle! I am trying to talk him into a milk cow next ;)

Nicole! I'm excited you found me =) you can be my first follower!! I don't have any yet. I just kind of got into the whole blogger/twitter realm, and it's fun! I listen to the Faith and Family podcast, and they inspired me to try it. Plus, Phil said the other day he was surprised that I didn't have a blog yet, so I said 'what the heck!' I'll give it a shot.

Ooh!! A MILK cow! I've been trying to drop little hints about that one for MONTHS now, and I think I'm starting to convince him that selling raw milk (which is so highly regulated by the FDA it's ridiculous; would be a pain!) would be very profitable. I'm not too keen on the twice daily milkings (I like to go out of town some weekends), but the dreams of homemade cheese, butter, cottage cheese, yogurt and ice cream are pretty intense :).

Have you looked into a share milk cow? A friend of mine does it and she LOVES it! It is basically where you get a Jersey cow that has a calf and you share the milk with the calf so you don't have to milk every day. She says when she wants milk, she separates the calf from the mom overnight and then gets all the milk she wants the next day. I think my husband is pretty close to being on board with it! But, we just bought this property a month ago, and it was used for horses, so we need to give it some TLC before we venture down that road =)

Oh, and yes, Violin Mama, I have been doing some re-decorating around here. It's addicting!
